Ina Garten Salmon Tartare

Salmon Tartare is a raw dish made with fresh salmon, finely chopped and mixed with complementary flavors like lemon, capers, Dijon mustard, and herbs. This no-cook dish is a delicacy often served as an appetizer, offering a balance of creamy, tangy, and savory notes in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces sushi-grade fresh salmon, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon capers, rinsed and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon red onion, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Crackers or baguette slices (for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the salmon: Use a very sharp knife to finely dice the salmon into small, even pieces. Place the diced salmon in a mixing bowl.
  • Mix the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the lemon juice, lemon zest, Dijon mustard, olive oil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Combine ingredients: Add the chopped capers, red onion, dill, and chives to the salmon. Pour the dressing over the mixture and gently toss to combine.
  • Chill the tartare: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 10–15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve and garnish: Spoon the tartare onto crackers or baguette slices. Garnish with additional chives or dill if desired.
