Ina Garten Hot Mulled Cider (Non-Alcoholic)

Ina Garten Hot Mulled Cider (Non-Alcoholic) - recipe card

Warm, spiced apple cider infused with cinnamon, cloves, and citrus—perfect for cozy gatherings. This non-alcoholic version delivers all the comforting flavors of the classic without the alcohol.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
  • 2 tbsp honey (optional, to taste)
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, orange slices, and lemon slices.
  2. Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer. Do not boil, as boiling can cause the flavors to become bitter and the cider to reduce too much.
  3. Once simmering, reduce heat to low and let steep for 15-20 minutes, allowing the spices and citrus to infuse. Stir occasionally.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness with honey if desired. Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth.
  5. Strain the cider through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs or a heatproof pitcher. Discard the solids.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh orange slices or a cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Storage: Refrigerate leftover cider in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat or in the microwave. Freezing is not recommended as the flavors may become muted. For a crowd, double the recipe and keep warm in a slow cooker on the low setting.
